The light was so beautiful this morning in my kitchen that I knew at once we’d soon be photographing breakfast! Coincidentally, on her way to work, my friend Melanie had just delivered 3 dozen eggs from her free range chickens. It doesn’t get much better than this, I thought, so off I went, into breakfast mode. One beautiful fresh egg was about to get poached, but first, let’s prepare all else. A few sliced Shitake mushrooms, sauteéd in light butter, some home-made tomato conserve, a toasted slice of home-made bread, a few slices of oranges and bananas, and there was the perfect setting for the freshly arrived eggs. After adding 2 T water in a small tempered glass prep bowl, I cracked the shell of a large fresh egg, and dropped the egg into the bowl, microwaving it 30 seconds at a time until just perfectly “poached.” I then topped the “set up” with the egg and (removing it from the bowl with a small slotted spoon), poured some peach juice and, as you can see, it made for a real pretty morning picture. Breakfast was served!
