I must admit, the 2Gourmaniacs have been amiss with their Valentine’s Day recipes this year. So in keeping with the belief that “it’s better late than never” we offer for your enjoyment several quick and easy Valentine Day delectables over the next several posts.
The first is heart shaped grilled pizzas. This is very easy to make with a pound of fresh pizza dough from your local supermarket. If fresh is not available, frozen is fine; just let it thaw out before proceeding. For a complete discussion on 2 Gourmaniac grilled pizza, check out our post.
After you roll out the dough, grill it on one side. Take the half grilled crust and cut it in half. Then take a heart shaped template, such as an eight inch heart shaped cake pan. Using the point of a sharp pairing knife, cut out two heart shapes, closely following the contour of the pan template. Turn the dough hearts over and top the grilled sides with your favorite toppings. We used tomato sauce, sautéed red onions, sautéed mushrooms, artichoke hearts and assorted shredded cheeses. Slip the pizza hearts back on the grill for several minutes until the cheese is melted and the crust is nicely grilled. That’s it. Simple.
For Valentine’s Day dinner, light a few candles, pour a couple glasses of your favorite red wine, and enjoy “pizza hearts”. And when you’re finished enjoying your hearty pizzas, lean across and give your Valentine a big smooch.
